SwingUO Safety, Consent and Inclusion (SCI) Statement
Swing dancing inherently creates a community of people who share a love of dance. SwingUO wants to be a space where participants can express that joy while also feeling safe and at ease. As such, we take incidents of harm physical, emotional or otherwise very seriously.
SwingUO has a zero tolerance policy for abuse, discrimination, or harassment. We strive to be a welcoming community to all people, but this does not include individuals who refuse to respect the wishes or well-being of other participants.
We will not tolerate physical or verbal abuse, any kind of harassment, or discriminatory language.
If you witness an incident or are involved in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, please reach out to us at swinguo@gmail.com or submit an incident report using our anonymous SCI Reporting Form.
The SCI Committee
Our SCI is made up of 3 executive members who are primarily responsible for handling SCI incidents and reports. However, responses that require serious intervention will be handled by the entire executive. Please see our SCI Policy for more details.
Currently, the SCI Committee is comprised of:

Arine Karapetyan
Director of Social Affairs

Alexis Taillardat
President

Ruby Sweet
Director of Finances
The SCI committee is comfortable intervening to defuse tension, resolve conflicts, or take more serious action (depending on the situation).
Additionally, for Swing ‘U’ Out, SwingUO has designated SCI volunteers. At any point during the event if you feel uncomfortable, have a question or a concern about anything, feel free to reach out to them as well.

SwingUO reserves the right to respond to any situation where participant wellbeing is compromised. Decisions will be made by the SCI Committee and enforced by SwingUO executives. All decisions are final and will be communicated to those involved.
The SCI Committee will respond in any situation where they see that intervention is required, but community building is a shared responsibility. We rely on everyone to name and inform us of problematic situations or behaviour. We are here to support you, and we encourage you to do the same for the people around you.
